Book Review: A Game of Greed and Deception

By John Mathews

This book kept me hooked right from the very beginning. A real page turner that will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat through the entire thing. It’s mysterious, suspensful, dramatic, and did I mention gripping?

The book starts off with what you think is going to be a family getaway in a remote Colorado cabin resort with the main character, Stephen, his young wife, Tammy, and his daughter, Maria, setting off to the mountains during a very snowy blizzard up a mountain where no one can get to them very easily. They have a lovely dinner and everything seems like it’s going to be a great trip, until Tammy has her “beloved” husband fetch her a pack of cigarettes only to have him never return. Of course, she plays the worried wife, calls the cops after his disappearance, and acts all sorts of frantic in front of Maria. But, you learn certain things about this woman that will have you second guessing her every movement and motive.

It’s very hard to not give too much away about this one. If I say too much, I will ruin the entire thing. It really kept me guessing until the very end and I couldn’t put it down until I knew exactly what was going on. You’ll think one thing, then get proved wrong over and over and over again and I loved it! I recommend this to anyone with a taste for the mysterious and the suspense genres.
