Nightmares

They follow you

Like bats in the night

You can’t outrun them

You can never hide

They’ll be there waiting

Always waiting

For you to fall asleep

For your mind to finally be theirs

You can fight it all you want

Force your eyes to never close

Soon you’ll give in

And they’ll be there

They’ll play with you

Showing what you never want to see

Saying what you never want to hear

Until you beg for it to stop

Pleading for it all to be over

But your mind does not listen

Your eyes do not open

They cannot hear your cries

And you’re forced to see the images

So gruesome and bizarre

Your feet try to carry you away

Try taking you from the nightmares

But they follow you

They’ll always follow you.

Nightmares

Here’s another of my past favorites that I’ve written. Just wanted to share again!

They follow you
Like bats in the night
You can’t outrun them
You can never hide
They’ll be there waiting
Always waiting
For you to fall asleep
For your mind to finally be theirs
You can fight it all you want
Force your eyes to never close
Soon you’ll give in
And they’ll be there
They’ll play with you
Showing what you never want to see
Saying what you never want to hear
Until you beg for it to stop
Pleading for it all to be over
But your mind does not listen
Your eyes do not open
They cannot hear your cries
And you’re forced to see the images
So gruesome and bizarre
Your feet try to carry you away
Try taking you from the nightmares
But they follow you
They’ll always follow you.

The Only One

Look at me
I sit all alone
I stare at your face
And sniff your cologne

You might not know this
But I need you to be
The only one in my life
For me to feel complete

I am obsessed with your eyes
They linger on me so
As I stand above you
Never letting you go

I need you so dearly
More than trees need the sun
More than my lungs need the air
Because you are the only one

A Man and His Car

I know I’ve posted this one before, but this is still one of my favorite poems that I’ve written. I just had to share it again.

Once upon a time
In a land not so far
Lived a lead footed man
Alone with his car.

He longed to go fast
Speed flawlessly down the track
So he looked for a car
A Mustang in fact.

It was love at first sight
From bumper to bumper
He adored her sleek look
And got rid of his clunker.

The metallic silver hue
How she sparkles in the light
Those amazing blue headlamps
Just look killer at night.

The windows tinted dark
The car low to the ground
She’s sure to turn heads
While driving around.

She was built to go fast
She was built to go far
Not sit in some garage
Like an old man’s show car.

He steps on the gas
The engine begins to roar
The turbo whistles loud
As the rpms soar.

The excitement is great
His heart beats fast in his chest
Shifting through gears
This time will be his best.

He speeds by his opponent
The world goes by in a blur
To the young man
Winning is the best to occur.

He’ll be noted as great
By friends and other men
Then get back in the staging lane
To do it over again.

Lonely Limbo

I’m awake
I don’t know where I am
I don’t know who I am
But I’m awake
At least
I think I’m awake
It’s too dark to tell
Pitch blackness
Lies before me
I hear noises
Scratching sounds
Coming from everywhere
The sounds of screaming
Fills my ears
Startling me
I look around
For signs of life
For the faint hint
That someone is nearby
I reach out
Feeling for anything
But nothing grazes my hands
I’m alone
Yet I don’t feel alone
There are a thousand eyes upon me
Watching my every move
But I can’t see them
I cry out
My throat screaming
For the help
I’ll never get
For the light
I can never find
My feet don’t move
My eyes don’t see
The terrifying noises
Are eating away at my soul
I have to get out
Find the life I need
But I can’t
I’m utterly stuck
In this darkness
In this empty void
In this lonely limbo
A place I can never be free

Pirates of Hardwood

Chapter 12

The kiss lingered on her lips as she followed Flint out of the room. There was a tingling sensation dancing across her skin, forcing her lips to tremble and her hands to shake nervously. She had never experienced a kiss as strong as the one she shared with the captain. It wasn’t as terrifying as her mind wanted her to believe. That feeling drifted from her mind the second she felt his warm lips upon her own.
Sam stayed one step behind him, walking past his men as they swabbed the deck. He took her to the stairs and each one creaked under their feet as they descended. She held onto the rotting handrail and let go of the damp wood after the last step. The crewmen below deck were busy stacking barrels of gun powder and a few cases of glass jars she believed to encase rum.
Flint lead her further below the deck of the ship until the smell of mold and mildew caressed her nose and she grimaced at the stench. The lighting was dim, only two small, round windows to let the sun’s rays shine through. The lowest level of the ship, the Brig as Flint had called it, was nothing more than a depressing prison home to a few pirates and three familiar faces.
Darrick was the first to notice her when she entered the prison. He stood up from the barrel he was siting upon and walked to the bars. He said her name quietly, but loud enough for her to hear his voice. Rusty and Sarah also spotted her and ran to the bars, begging to be let out. Sam glanced from her friends to Flint and stared into his calming eyes.
“Go ahead.” He stated, motioning toward the cell with her friends, “I’ll give you a few moments to see them.”
Sam nodded and said, “Thank you.”
Flint leaned in to her ear and whispered, “Just remember our kiss, my love.”
She let that short moment play in her mind again and shivered when their lips touched in her mind. It wasn’t a shiver of disgust, more of wonder and longing. A longing for what, she did not know, but she was willing to find out.
He let her walk by and move across the Brig to the bars of the cell. She stopped in front of Darrick and forced a smile to her lips.
“Are you alright? Did they hurt you or anything?” he asked, frantically.
“Yeah, what did they do to you up there?” Sarah spoke up.
“I’m fine.” Sam replied. “They kept me in the captain’s room and gave me food and everything.”
“Why won’t they let us out of here, Sam?” Sarah asked, her eyes pleading for an answer.
“I don’t know. But I just have a few minutes before he’ll make me go back with him.” Sam replied with a shrug.
Sarah’s eyes turned red as tears fell to her cheeks. Rusty grabbed onto her and she buried her face in his shoulder to cry. Sam didn’t expect any different from Sarah. She would cry over anything.
Sam turned her eyes to Darrick’s. His hands were latched onto the bars and fear was in his eyes. She reached out and put a hand over one of his. His skin was cold against hers and he was shivering. It was relatively colder in the brig than in Flint’s room and she realized all of them were shivering.
“He didn’t touch you, did he?” Darrick asked, quietly motioning toward the captain who still stood by the stairs.
Sam shook her head, “Just a kiss.”
“What? Why?”
She shrugged, “I wanted to come see you and that was the only way. He thinks I’m someone else, a girl he’s madly in love with because we look alike.”
Darrick shook his head and glared at Flint, “I don’t understand any of this. Why are we even here? Why are you out there alone without me to protect you?”
Sam raised an eyebrow, “You want to protect me?”
He nodded and turned his eyes back to hers, “You’re damn right I do, but I can’t being stuck in this cage while you’re surrounded by pirates.”
Sam moved closer to the bars, her hand still resting on top of his, “Then save me, Darrick. Find a way to get out of here and save me.” Her voice was filled with fear and her eyes were pleading for help.
The sound of boots clanking across the wooden floor interrupted them and Flint approached the cell. He grabbed Sam’s hand and took it away from Darrick’s.
“It’s time to go, darling.” Flint said, keeping a steely glare on Darrick.
“No!” Darrick shouted. “Let us out of here!”
Flint pulled Sam away from the bars, fighting with her a bit as she dug her feet into the floor, “I think it’s best if you rot in here for a while.”
He forced Sam to go with him, his arm wrapped around her waist, pressing her close to his side. She looked over her shoulder and Darrick was fighting with the bars.
“Save me, Darrick! Find a way, please!” she pleaded.

An Ode to my House

I live in a house
That isn’t so great
The rooms are too small
And the deck, I just hate.

The flat roof keeps on leaking
The garage floor’s a wet mess
The low basement ceiling
Puts our foreheads to the test.

There’s not enough space in the kitchen
The cupboards are much too small
The floor used to be ugly carpet
There was even some on the wall.

I have no walk-in closet
Barely room for my clothes
A master bedroom is non-existent
Plain and simple, it blows.

There was a window in the shower
It was as clear as can be
Now a large piece of plywood
Covers so no one can see.

The walls are too thin
The washer likes to walk
There are lumps in the carpet
Oh, listen to me talk.

The list can go on
Of things I can’t stand
But I love my first house
On my own piece of land.

Just a silly love poem

I love how you are always there
Never judging my crazy hair

I love the feeling of your hand in mine
While you tickle and make me whine

You always know just what to say
Even when you make me pay

Your smile makes my heart melt fast
No matter how mad I’ve been in the past

Faster and faster my heart will race
While you squeeze me in a tight embrace

You always make time just for us
No matter how much we both will fuss

Above all, I love that you belong to me
No one can touch you or wrath they will see.

Take A Risk

Take a risk
Take a dare
Do what you can
Don’t just sit there

Go see the world
Do as you wish
Explore the great seas
And try that strange fish

Climb up to the sky
Swim down to the core
Always keep searching
For many things more

Find an adventure
That suits you the best
Get lost in that place
Then lean back and rest

Don’t let people stop you
Or say that you can’t
Live to the fullest
And never look back.
