Poem: Running Through a Daydream

I wake up in the morning,

Throw my hair in a bun.

I lace up my sneakers

And head out for a run.

I’m out of breath

By the end of the block.

Still I push myself harder,

Never checking the clock.

All this time I spend running

My daydreams take shape.

I go into a world

One I cannot escape.

There are monsters and demons,

Zombies and vampires too.

A red-headed stalker

With eyes oh-so blue.

There are heroes and good guys,

Someone there to save the day.

It wouldn’t be a fantasy

Without them out to play.

There are castles and oceans

And skies with bright stars.

I see chaos and beauty

And love hidden behind by bars.

All these things that I see

As I jog through the world

Are created by one thing;

My twisted mind unfurled.

I can run on forever

In the madness of my mind.

And keep going and going

Until the end of time.

But, alas, I cannot

For my breath has run short.

It is time to head home

And rest up from the sport.

I’ll start again tomorrow

With my dreams set on high.

I’ll see where they might take me

And always reach for the sky.

Disappear

I just want to disappear

Into the stories that I hear

Onto the pages from which I read

Becoming my imagination’s most precious seed

I want to fly above the sky

Happy as a kite so high

I want to dive into the sea

And live with mermaids filled with glee

Fight battles of magic, mystery, and lust

Finding true love is always a must

Travel to the edges of space

Finding out my secret grace

I want to be much more than I am

Become my own personal grand slam

Never look back at what I used to be

And become a more powerful and much better me

Take over a world and become their queen

Rule until life fades to a dream

Because I just want to disappear

Into the stories that I hear.

Nightmares

They follow you

Like bats in the night

You can’t outrun them

You can never hide

They’ll be there waiting

Always waiting

For you to fall asleep

For your mind to finally be theirs

You can fight it all you want

Force your eyes to never close

Soon you’ll give in

And they’ll be there

They’ll play with you

Showing what you never want to see

Saying what you never want to hear

Until you beg for it to stop

Pleading for it all to be over

But your mind does not listen

Your eyes do not open

They cannot hear your cries

And you’re forced to see the images

So gruesome and bizarre

Your feet try to carry you away

Try taking you from the nightmares

But they follow you

They’ll always follow you.

Nightmares

Here’s another of my past favorites that I’ve written. Just wanted to share again!

They follow you
Like bats in the night
You can’t outrun them
You can never hide
They’ll be there waiting
Always waiting
For you to fall asleep
For your mind to finally be theirs
You can fight it all you want
Force your eyes to never close
Soon you’ll give in
And they’ll be there
They’ll play with you
Showing what you never want to see
Saying what you never want to hear
Until you beg for it to stop
Pleading for it all to be over
But your mind does not listen
Your eyes do not open
They cannot hear your cries
And you’re forced to see the images
So gruesome and bizarre
Your feet try to carry you away
Try taking you from the nightmares
But they follow you
They’ll always follow you.

The Only One

Look at me
I sit all alone
I stare at your face
And sniff your cologne

You might not know this
But I need you to be
The only one in my life
For me to feel complete

I am obsessed with your eyes
They linger on me so
As I stand above you
Never letting you go

I need you so dearly
More than trees need the sun
More than my lungs need the air
Because you are the only one

A Man and His Car

I know I’ve posted this one before, but this is still one of my favorite poems that I’ve written. I just had to share it again.

Once upon a time
In a land not so far
Lived a lead footed man
Alone with his car.

He longed to go fast
Speed flawlessly down the track
So he looked for a car
A Mustang in fact.

It was love at first sight
From bumper to bumper
He adored her sleek look
And got rid of his clunker.

The metallic silver hue
How she sparkles in the light
Those amazing blue headlamps
Just look killer at night.

The windows tinted dark
The car low to the ground
She’s sure to turn heads
While driving around.

She was built to go fast
She was built to go far
Not sit in some garage
Like an old man’s show car.

He steps on the gas
The engine begins to roar
The turbo whistles loud
As the rpms soar.

The excitement is great
His heart beats fast in his chest
Shifting through gears
This time will be his best.

He speeds by his opponent
The world goes by in a blur
To the young man
Winning is the best to occur.

He’ll be noted as great
By friends and other men
Then get back in the staging lane
To do it over again.

Lonely Limbo

I’m awake
I don’t know where I am
I don’t know who I am
But I’m awake
At least
I think I’m awake
It’s too dark to tell
Pitch blackness
Lies before me
I hear noises
Scratching sounds
Coming from everywhere
The sounds of screaming
Fills my ears
Startling me
I look around
For signs of life
For the faint hint
That someone is nearby
I reach out
Feeling for anything
But nothing grazes my hands
I’m alone
Yet I don’t feel alone
There are a thousand eyes upon me
Watching my every move
But I can’t see them
I cry out
My throat screaming
For the help
I’ll never get
For the light
I can never find
My feet don’t move
My eyes don’t see
The terrifying noises
Are eating away at my soul
I have to get out
Find the life I need
But I can’t
I’m utterly stuck
In this darkness
In this empty void
In this lonely limbo
A place I can never be free

An Ode to my House

I live in a house
That isn’t so great
The rooms are too small
And the deck, I just hate.

The flat roof keeps on leaking
The garage floor’s a wet mess
The low basement ceiling
Puts our foreheads to the test.

There’s not enough space in the kitchen
The cupboards are much too small
The floor used to be ugly carpet
There was even some on the wall.

I have no walk-in closet
Barely room for my clothes
A master bedroom is non-existent
Plain and simple, it blows.

There was a window in the shower
It was as clear as can be
Now a large piece of plywood
Covers so no one can see.

The walls are too thin
The washer likes to walk
There are lumps in the carpet
Oh, listen to me talk.

The list can go on
Of things I can’t stand
But I love my first house
On my own piece of land.

Just a silly love poem

I love how you are always there
Never judging my crazy hair

I love the feeling of your hand in mine
While you tickle and make me whine

You always know just what to say
Even when you make me pay

Your smile makes my heart melt fast
No matter how mad I’ve been in the past

Faster and faster my heart will race
While you squeeze me in a tight embrace

You always make time just for us
No matter how much we both will fuss

Above all, I love that you belong to me
No one can touch you or wrath they will see.

Take A Risk

Take a risk
Take a dare
Do what you can
Don’t just sit there

Go see the world
Do as you wish
Explore the great seas
And try that strange fish

Climb up to the sky
Swim down to the core
Always keep searching
For many things more

Find an adventure
That suits you the best
Get lost in that place
Then lean back and rest

Don’t let people stop you
Or say that you can’t
Live to the fullest
And never look back.
