Short Story: The Far Beyond

The ground is thirty-feet below. If I mess up this jump, I’ll snap my ankles for sure. The pain won’t be the worst of it, either. They will catch me and lock me away for being a nutcase and believing in worlds their eyes could never see. But I have seen them. I have dreamt of the wildest and most beautiful places this human world could never imagine.

I have longed to go there for years. I’ve searched far and wide, losing those I once held dear because they failed to see the wonders of this place beyond the stars. The land that is far away from time and space, where human life can be transformed into something mystifyingly beautiful. Every day will be an adventure and have a purpose that will only be meant for me.

After ten years, I finally found the portal to the land in the far beyond and I haven’t much time to make the leap.

The tree is dying and it will take the powers of that land straight to the gates of heaven. I will forever lose the opportunity to discover the true meaning of my existence.

How can I go on with my life if that life is dull and relentless?

I need to make this jump and stick the landing with perfection. It is the only way to escape the madness chasing after me through the woods. I hear them shouting my name and ordering me to return. They threaten and curse, claiming me insane for having visions they could never fathom.

They will never understand the dreams I have.

A dog barks; low and terrifying. They’re getting closer by the second. The sunlight casts their shadows over the grass and heavy boots trudge through fallen leaves of an early autumn. Men, women, and even children are hunting down me—the wild girl standing on the highest branch in the tallest tree.

I inch to the edge, nervously clutching the strap to my satchel. I packed only what I may need to survive whatever lives in the land far beyond. Clothes, water, a loaf of bread, and the only photo I have left of my parents. They disappeared when I was seven and left me with dreams of the place I seek. It’s a longshot, but my gut is telling that I will find them there. That they will be waiting with arms wide open for the daughter they love.

I can’t mess this up.

I take a deep breath. The voices grow louder. One of them shouts that they’ve spotted me and startles me. I nearly fall off the branch before I’m ready. The limb wavers and creaks beneath my wobbling legs. I stretch my arms out wide to obtain my balance. Down below, I see them. They’re running toward my tree now. They carry torches and pitchforks as if I am some type of monster. If only they could see the monsters in themselves before destroying the dreams I hold dear.

The tree begins to quake and I glance to the lowest branches. Two, strong men with thick beards and axes are hacking away at the trunk. I shake my head and breathe a faint no.

I’m out of time now. If they succeed and the tree falls, I will die right along with the land I love so much. My heart pounds wildly and I let my right foot dangle over the branch.

This is it; I think with a smile crossing my face, this is the start of something wonderful.

I step over the branch and shrieks of terror erupt from the hunters below. The wind whips through my hair as warmth wraps around my soul. I bask in a light that blinds me and slip into the land of the far beyond.

My Upcoming Publishing Endeavor

Hello world,

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, but I’m still alive and still writing strong. I have an announcement to make!

This year I have a goal set in mind to finally publish one of my books, Eternity. This one has been finished for a bit now and is in desperate need of being read by the world. I’ll have to go back through and edit a few things, fix some glitches, and get my beta readers’ feedback. I don’t have an exact timeline for this one to be out, but my goal is to have it ready by the end of the year. I’ll keep my fans updated. It’s been a while since I’ve published anything and I feel the need to do so.

So, for those of you who love reading fiction books that are suspenseful, adventurous, and also have a hint of science fiction and time-travel, then you’ll love Eternity. You’ll follow the tale of Calvin Montague on her journey of changing her life and becoming a person her own brother doesn’t recognize. She takes over the country and follows what she believes is the right path to take. (I’ll give out more details later on, but here’s a taste of what is going on.)

Well, that’s all for tonight. I’m looking forward to this endeavor and hope the rest of you are as well.

Publishing Eternity

Well, the time has come to set out with publishing Eternity. I began the arduous task of formatting this evening. I’m not sure exactly when the release date will be, but I’m hoping for later this year.

This is the first of two books, set in the future during not-so-great times. It has a hint of science fiction and time travel, but it’s mostly a thrill-ride that will keep you hooked until the very end.

More details will come a little later. I just wanted to give the world an update.

Stay classy out there!!

A New Inspiration!

Well my imaginary friends paid me a visit recently and have inspired me to start yet another project. I have the tendency to start writing about a half dozen stories and work on each one whenever I get the chance. I feel pretty good about each one too.

This new one is slightly different than the normal craziness I have been known to think of. It’s less of the zombie/vampire/crazy stalker genre and more of the coming of age type for young adults. I’ve only got about 3,000 words in and my intention is to not let this one fall into the pile of unfinished ideas that are stacking up on my computer. One day, maybe they’ll all be finished, but it takes time. As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

It’s Been Awhile…

Lately I find myself working on various projects at the same time. I believe that’s a big reason why I haven’t posted much lately. My mind is wrapped around all of my other ideas that I haven’t been able to find the time to actually sit down and write a post. So, here it is.

I’ve finished a novel, 117,000 words long, titled Eternity. This is the first one of two books and I’m currently working on the second on. It’s untitled as of right now, but it’ll come to me. With this one, I’ve chosen to set aside my self publishing ambitions for a moment and focus on finding an agent that will land me the great pleasure of accepting my work. Naturally, I’ve gotten a few rejections back, with one of them being more positive than negative.

It’s a tough road to pour your heart out into something you can’t imagine not doing and risking everything on the off chance at making it big. Of course, I have no intention of letting the rejections or the negativity get me down or ruin my life and whatnot. I’ve come to terms with using those rejections and forcing myself to try harder. Even if it takes longer than I anticipated, I don’t plan on stopping until I find my needle in the haystack and land an agent. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be seeing my book being transformed into a movie and my name will be on the big screen.

For now, I’m happy to sit back, let my fingers bring my imagination to life, and never give up.

The Fighting Chance

The day is finally here! The sequal to The Human Race is now avaiable to download on the kindle as well as purchase in paperback. I’m super excited, as I get with every project I work on and put out there for the world to judge. I can’t wait to hear what people think of this one. My mom, who is the only one who has read it so far, LOVED it. She had to call me just about every day to let me know what she thought about a certain incident and to tell me the parts she got upset over. I know this praise is only coming from my mother, but it still feels wonderful just knowing that another person on the planet appreciates what I’m trying to do for a living.

Anyways, here is the link for amazon to purchase a copy: (it just the link for kindle because it takes a day or two for the hard copy and kindle to link up. Once they do, I’ll add it to the drop down menu on my blog.)

The Fighting Chance Release Date!!

Well, the time has finally come for me to announce the release date of my upcoming novel, the sequel to The Human Race, also known as The Fighting Chance. Wednesday, August 13th (which just so happens to be in just 4 short days) will be the date my book will be available. I already have a line of people waiting for to get their hands on it. If you haven’t already checked out the first book in my vampire/zombie trilogy, go ahead and scope it out. There’s a link to it in the menu drop down on my blog. The kindle version is only .99 cents or you can also purchase a hard copy which is $10.46 on amazon.

For today, I’ll leave you with this little taste of what you’ll find in The Fighting Chance and I’m looking forward to reading more reviews about my work.

A year after making to Des Moines and Bridget has found herself the perfect life. Defending the wall against the zombies during the day and living the cushy life with Ryder at night. She couldn’t ask for anything more. Until a small family ventures to the city seeking refuge and tells the people about the village they came from. Bridget, along with her ragtag team of monster killers, volunteer to find the village in hopes of bringing back more survivors.

But, life on the road is dangerous. Bad things lurk around every corner. Just when they think they find safety under a dark overpass, something unexpected happens.

Bridget stumbles upon something that could change the fate of everything. Something that is so valuable, yet also dangerous if it were to fall into the wrong hands. Fighting to keep it safe is the only option and even that becomes a difficult task to accomplish.

Blue Bantlee: My Very First Writing Passion

When I was seventeen, I worked at this farm store here in my home town. It was part time and I worked in the automotive department, which I used to hate, but with the job I have now I’m still in that area, selling tires to semi drivers and all that. But, while working the evenings, wandering up and down the aisles trying to find something to do or a customer to assist, I managed to come up with my very first novel idea that I was insanely passionate about at the time. I spent so many hours, staying up way past midnight so I could cram in as much writing as I could before I needed to get some sleep for school the next day. I came up with the idea for this book (which is going to be a series when I’m finished with it) while working one night.

The more I think about how I came up with the idea, the more I smile at how random it was. I remember walking down one of the aisles, facing some of the objects and there was something that I was moving that was the color blue and I kept thinking, “How weird it would be to have Blue for a name.” Well, with that I created my first character that I absolutely fell in love with. Her name was Blue Bantlee, which of course is a nickname. Her real name is Adrienne, but she has the brightest blue eyes the world has ever seen which is why her “father” always called her Blue. There is a reason why there are quotation marks around the word father, but I’d rather not give a lot of it away. I will say that she doens’t have the best of lives anymore. She lives in a war torn country that has been separated by a giant wall that runs from the northern border down to the southern. It’s meant to keep the rebels in the Wastelands away from the perfect people who live in the fancy cities on the other side of the wall.

Just thinking about this again and I’m feeling so giddy about working on the project. It was my masterpiece when I was writing it throughout my senior year of high school and all through college. (In case you’re wondering, I graduated college about five years ago.)

So, with the sequal to The Human Race nearing its release date, I’ve been thinking about Blue again and how I am going to blow the dust off and get back to work. It was my first book I was more than passionate and obsessed about. My first book that I got to 120,000 words before I considered the first draft finished and also the first book I tried seeking a literary agent for. My plan is to revisit this passion of mine when I’m done writing The Human Race trilogy and try searching for an agent again for the Blue Bantlee series. I’ve already opened the file back up and gave it a much more appealing title: Into the Wastelands: A Blue Bantlee Adventure. I’m not sure how many book there will be with this series for I have a lot planned for her. I’m sad to be nearing the end of my zombie/vampire trilogy, but I’m more than excited to get back to work on my first attempt at writing a novel.

I hope there are others out there, much like myself, who pour their heart and soul into whatever their passion is. We cannot give up on what makes us happy. We can set it aside for a little while, like I did with Blue Bantlee, but we’ll find that day when we need to get back to it, with a smile on our face, and keep working for what we believe in.
